Peak demand for traditional electricity is typically between late afternoon and evening hours as people return to their homes and start to turn on systems which require energy. Homes which depend on traditional electricity are said to be connected the grid. The most widely used alternative to traditional energy is solar power, which is a great option. However, solar tends to have the strongest flow of energy mid-day, when people are not necessarily home to utilize it.

ALL new Mandalay homes offer energy saving solutions that save homeowners money. This new system (detailed below) makes the cost of power for all new Mandalay home owners 4.75 cents per kilowatt, compared to the national average of 12 cents per kilowatt. Recently, Mandalay Homes and Arizona Public Service have partnered to include a 10 kW Sonnen Eco 10 energy storage system in their new homes. The Sonnen system is battery based and will automatically kick on during peak hours to save the homeowner money.

This battery-based system is only part of what Mandalay is doing to help with energy cost. They have chosen a multi-pronged approach to help fight the rising cost of power. AT NO ADDITIONAL CHARGE all their homes offer spray foam insulation, as the foam does a far better job of filling all the nooks and crannies that traditional insulation can leave open. Homes also include air-conditioned attics, ducts inside the homes, slab-edge insulation, Aerobarrier (which injects an airborne aerosol mist into the building as it is being pressurized with a blower door), maximum ventilation and smaller equipment for home optimization.

As a result of these proactive measures, homeowners in these communities can expect to spend as low as $12 per month the cost of energy, plus $18 per month for the standard APS service charge and taxes. That could mean a bill as low as $30 a month for the homeowner!
